Bulgarian Mountain Rescue Service (BMRS) was founded as an independent, non-governmental organization in In March 2015. The creation of the organization aims to restore traditions of mountaineering, and the mountain rescue service established in 1933, to implement modern best practices and standards of the world's leading organizations and rescue services in the field of mountain rescue in Bulgaria. Bulgarian Mountain Rescue Service is a member of IKAR - ICAR (International Commission for Alpine Rescue) by m. In October 2015, membership type “A” with all its full rights.
The principles enshrined in the Charter of the organization are voluntary and free assistance to victims of accidents in the mountains, quality, efficiency and professionalism in carrying out rescue operations and preventing disasters in the mountains.
Bulgarian mountain rescue service unites mountain rescue or operational teams of rescuers throughout the country. The organization has all of the specialized rescue equipment to perform all activities of mountain rescue. Membership in BPSS individually or collectively. Member of the association can be any physical or legal person who is interested in the objects of the association and its objectives and adopt the basic principles enshrined in the statutes of the association.
Bulgarian Mountain Rescue Service is in close cooperation and collaboration with other organizations having similar object or interested in this field.
Bulgarian Mountain Rescue Service carried out the following activities to achieve the Charter objectives:
Develops a strategy for the rescue work in the mountains, caves and inaccessible places and promote it;
Based on the development strategy builds rescue system consisting of Mountain rescue teams and positions, covering mountains and inaccessible places in the Republic of Bulgaria;
Creates training centers and organized training courses for rescue in the mountains, caves and inaccessible places;
Certifies mountain and cave rescue workers;
Performs sports and exercise activities in connection with the implementation of its objectives;
According to its competence assist the state and the relevant structures at disasters, accidents and catastrophes.
Conducts seminars, symposia and roundtables on various topical issues of mountain and cave rescue;
Implements practical programs and activities in this field;
